Vixen 70 mm f/8 fluorite doublet refractor, on a lightweight Vixen/Celestron altazimuth mounting.

A pleasant handful – a Vixen 70 mm f/8 fluorite doublet refractor, on a lightweight Vixen/Celestron altazimuth mounting, in my yard in Palo Alto in June, 2009.  It is a one-hand carry to get this instrument outside, which makes it extremely handy for quick-look observing in my front yard, the more so because I must often move to see around trees, street lights and rose bushes.  The pouch below the center of the tripod is for eyepieces and such.

Vixen lies: The objective is not an apochromat in the technical sense of the word, but is indeed a superb fluorite-doublet achromat.
